This is the Osborne Brothers with Red Allen - Collectors Classics number 8. This vinyl was released in 1976.
There are no notes on this album with the exception of the track listing. Wild Mountain Honey, Teardrops In My Eyes, My Aching Heart, “Who Done It” were never released before.
I believe this is a recording of some previously released recordings. In some spots it sounds like they recorded from a vinyl record or from 78 rpm recordings. Just did this for historic reasons.
These notes came from the net about the Osborne brothers at this time.
From 1956-59, they played the WWVA WHEELING JAMBOREE and recording with Red Allen, they had a 1958 hit on MGM with Once More. In 1963. they joined the OPRY and after changing to the Decca label had several country chart successes including Rocky Top. Never afraid to modernize their bluegrass, (Sonny actually once stated that he did not care too much for the genre), they added other musicians and used electrified instruments including a steel guitar, piano and drums, which caused some traditionalists to criticize their work. These days I believe Sonny feels a little different.
